The College of Liberal Arts

The College of Liberal Arts is an academic division combing the characteristics of humanities with those of technology. It includes three academic departments—Department of Applied English, Department of Visual Communication Design, and Department of Applied Japanese, and two administrative centers—Art Center and Language Center. In addition, the College of Liberal Arts has eminent faculty members, including 3 full time professors, 12 associate professors, 20 assistant professors, and 6 administrative assistants. The interdisciplinary traits of the College of Liberal Arts are as follows:

1.      Developing core values in cultural creativity: Following national economic policies and the changing of industrial value chains, Jinwen University of Science and Technology has been developing its cultural creative industry due to its location in northern Taiwan. The College of Liberal Arts will produce quality international talents via the research of creative industry in order to meet the regional demands of these burgeoning industries.

2.      Combining professional training with general education: Based on objective considerations, the College of Liberal Arts places emphasis on teaching which fuses humanities education and professional disciplines and aims to mix language studies with curriculum design.

3.      Fusing liberal arts with technology: Via interactive pedagogy and prospective technological thinking, the College of Liberal Arts encourages teachers and students to learn from each other and to make great advances together.

4.      Developing international perspectives by connecting to fundamentals in quality liberal arts: By exploring quality local cultural foundations, the College of Liberal Arts stays oriented toward creative industry, engages in strategic international exchange projects, and develops its own unique cutting-edge mechanisms.

5.      Integrating disciplines with sustainable development: The College of Liberal Arts integrates resources from national Ministries and corporations, actively researches innovative teaching approaches, firmly establishes interdisciplinary mechanisms between technology and humanities, and aims for sustainable development.

 

Culture Industry and Innovation Design CIID

1. Teaching Emphasis

The College of Liberal Arts places educational emphasis on cultural innovation nationally and on the trends of business development locally. Influential leaders from business, government officials, academic scholars, and researchers in the field are invited to contribute their knowledge for course instruction and towards shaping the direction of future research for the benignity of students. Justified selection and cultivation of graduate students who have the potential for starting innovative business have been implemented in our college to develop students’ professional specialties. CIID has a number of highly qualified teachers who focus their professions on the study of practical situations utilizing qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to objectively investigate every field of studies.

2. Curriculum Design

A total of 15 graduate students will be recruited to study in the fields of culture industry and innovation design. Curriculum design includes the following courses: project based research methodology, the value of creative culture industry, patent law, innovative economic law, and patterns of innovative business, innovation culture study, theory and practice of visual environment, design and practice of digital contents, theory of interactive mechanisms, and the practice of virtual reality. The minimum requirement for graduation from the CIID is 30 credit hours (including 6 credit hours for master theses). To effectively lead to pursuit to the degree, the CIID has designed the curriculum with an even number of credit hours in a two-year study period.

3. Educational Objectives

Graduate students have opportunities to publish their papers in annual international conferences that are held by the CIID specialties. Students learn research directions from their research methodology course. In addition, students have opportunities to establish connections between what they have learned in the culture study course and actual exhibition experiences. The College of Liberal Arts is dedicated to foster our students to be talented people with the knowledge of business and the knowledge of designing higher level digital multimedia e-books technologies by implementing our distinctive module courses. To be precise, we are dedicated to cultivating the following talented people:

a.          People with ability in planning and researching in the innovative culture industry.

b.          People with ability in designing and researching in the fields of visual environment and digital multimedia design

c.           Talented professionals with high moral standards and strong ambition towards starting a personal creative business.
